Peer Support Group Confidentiality Policy

Semiahmoo Family Place (SFP) is committed to creating a safe and trusting space where participants can speak openly and honestly.

Our Commitment

Personal information and individual stories shared within the group are confidential. SFP staff, volunteers and participants are expected to respect the privacy of everyone who attends.

Participants are asked not to share another person’s name, personal story or identifying information outside the group. Everyone is welcome to talk about their own experience and what they have learned or gained from participating.

Sharing the Impact of Our Work

SFP may share general, anonymous information about the program to help us evaluate our work, advocate for families, educate the community, report to funders and seek funding to continue or expand our programs.

This may include common themes, needs or challenges raised by families; general observations about the experiences of parents in the postpartum period; participation and program demand; anonymous or combined program outcomes and feedback; and the ways the group is helping families and where additional community support is needed.

SFP may also share anonymous themes, experiences and examples that illustrate the needs of families and the impact of our programs. Any examples shared without individual consent will be anonymized or combined from the experiences of multiple participants so that no individual or family can reasonably be identified.

SFP will seek permission before sharing an identifiable participant story, photograph or direct quotation.

Limits to Confidentiality

Confidentiality may need to be broken when required by law or when there is a serious concern about the safety of a participant, child or another person. Where appropriate and possible, SFP will discuss this with the participant.

Our Shared Understanding

What someone shares about themselves belongs to them. We can share what we are learning as a community, but we do not share another person’s identity or identifiable personal story.

By participating in the group, participants agree to respect these confidentiality expectations.
